LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION: IT’S GREAT IN DAYTON!

Are you like me? When out-of-town family and friends visit I show off my city. I always plan a trip to Carillon Historical Park, hit a brew pub, the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force Museum of course and then a visit to the many wonderful Five Rivers MetroParks.

Well, if you love to 'show off' too then I have an offer you can't refuse. Make a video, highlight the things to see and do in Dayton and Montgomery County and you could win a cool prize.

It's from the fine folks at the Dayton Convention and Visitors Bureau in conjunction with National Tourism Week. Come on its easy and most of us have smartphones with video capabilities. That's all you need and some creativity thrown in.

Here's the deal.

Submit a one to two-minute video on

  1. ‘What you love about Dayton’ and or
  2. ‘What you’d like visitors to see, do and experience here in our hometown.’ You know, pat ourselves on the back, highlighting our wonderful attractions and amenities, and invite folks to come and visit Dayton.

Again use your iPhone, Droid or other equipment.

We're looking for fun, authentic videos featuring you or several different folks or a group. Go out and have great time and no worries, you don't have to be a professional. It can be humorous or serious—it’s all up to you! We want your authentic input and point of view. You can help the Dayton CVB promote Dayton and Montgomery County to lots of potential visitors!

OK, here are some ideas. You can highlight lots of different things, or a single thing, a certain attraction or activity, a restaurant, or favorite shopping location in Dayton and Montgomery County. Tons of possibilities.

How about the Dayton Art Institute? The Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park? Bike Trails, SunWatch Indian Village, 2nd Street Market, the Performing Arts, the Oregon District, activities in any of our Five Rivers MetroParks, the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery, the Packard Museum, Aullwood Audubon Society—I could go on and on!  Do I have your creative juices flowing yet? Your video can be of one thing or multiple locations. You can be an on camera host or add your voice, text and music.

Important noteyou can’t use copyrighted music, but go to YouTube and download ‘rights free music.’ They have a bunch to choose from. Or, use your own music.

Now the best part--There will be 2 winner selected

  • A ‘best video’ selected by a panel of judges and
  • A ‘people’s choice’ winner based on the most votes received on the Dayton CVB’s website and social media platforms between April 25 through April 29th.

You have until April 22 to submit your video and it’s easy.

Log on to enter by going to www.daytoncvb.com and scroll down on the home page to find contest information.  Upload your video to YouTube and email the link to the CVB along with your name, age and phone number to brose@daytoncvb.net

That’s right a GoPro!
