The Administrator of the Year Award honors the extraordinary accomplishments in soccer administration over a lifetime. Maas has been the state commissioner for the Ohio South Youth Soccer Association since 2003, but her involvement in soccer started over 30 years ago when her children became involved. She has served as a coach, referee, administrator, and for four years, as president of Huber Heights Soccer. During the past 25 years, Maas has also served as president for a club she helped to develop, the Warrior Soccer Club. For over 18 years, she was a part of the Miami Valley Youth Soccer Association and served as registrar and a member of the board of directors. Maas has also taken her passion for soccer to the community and grown the game by executing and developing several soccer events, and demonstrations. Additionally Maas has spearheaded the development of a new soccer complex in Dayton off of Rip Rap Road. The US Youth Soccer Association is the largest youth sports organization in the country and the largest member of the United States Soccer Federation, the governing body of soccer in the United States. US Youth Soccer programs provide a fun, safe and healthy environment for players at every level of the game. Carol Maas is one of four regional Administrators of the Year named. The National Administrator of the Year will be announced at the US Youth Soccer Awards Gala on Friday, March 6, at 7:30 p.m., as part of the US Youth Soccer adidas Workshop in San Jose, California. Dayton Soars at Religious Conference Managers Association TradeshowReligious meeting planners found more than their spirits soared at the Dayton/Montgomery County Convention & Visitors Bureau's booth at the Religious Conference Managers Association Tradeshow (RCMA). In a successful effort to attract religious meeting planners to the Dayton booth, planners were given an opportunity to take the Wright B. Flyer for an actual spin via a flight simulator located in the Dayton booth. How appropriate that Bishop Milton Wright's sons Wilbur and Orville would develop a plane that more than a century later religious meeting planners of all denominations from across the nation would attempt to fly at a religious conference and tradeshow! The flight simulator, built by the talented volunteer staff of the Wright B. Flyer, was a big hit and helped underscore Dayton's branding as the Birthplace of Aviation. The authenticity and uniqueness of the experience engaged the meeting planners and enhanced the prospect for Dayton/Montgomery County Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) sales staff to develop relationships that will lead to opportunities for future religious convention and meeting business in Dayton/Montgomery County. Dayton's exposure and impact at RCMA was also heightened when Bureau President/CEO Jacquelyn Y. Powell addressed the nearly 1,500 attendees in a general session educational panel. Additionally, each conference attendee carried colorful Dayton/Montgomery County CVB logo'd conference tote bags. "The religious market segment is an important and viable niche for Dayton/Montgomery County. We are an affordable and accessible destination with a wonderful variety of state-of-the-art meeting venues and a wide range of accommodations from full service to limited service and budget properties. We have an excellent track record of successfully hosting a variety of religious groups and meetings and we are diligent about ensuring that each group feels recognized in our community" states Powell. The CVB looks forward to the opportunity to take the Wright B Flyer Flight Simulator to the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) Tradeshow in Toronto in August. |

Presidents CornerThe New Year has started off with some excitement and new opportunities. The Dayton/Montgomery County Convention & Visitors Bureau was pleased to award a three year lease on a 2009 GM Chevy Malibu to our CVB Dayton Drives Excitement Campaign winner Judith Will Fleming. Fleming, the winner of the Dayton/ Montgomery County Convention & Visitor Bureau's Dayton Drives Excitement 2008 Campaign was presented with the keys to her new vehicle in January. Her name was drawn from a group of nearly 300 eligible meeting planners to win the lease. As Executive Director of the Ohio Public Transit Association, Fleming became eligible for the CVB sponsored vehicle lease drawing by completing a free Request For Proposal with the Dayton/Montgomery County Convention & Visitors Bureau in calendar year 2008. The Ohio Public Transit Association will hold their annual meeting. The Dayton Drives Excitement! Campaign was spearheaded by the Dayton/Montgomery County Convention & Visitors Bureau to generate exposure for Dayton/Montgomery County as a convention, meeting and event destination. Although the Dayton/Montgomery County CVB is sad to see their five year incentive partnership with the Moraine GM Assembly Plant come to an end following the closure of the local plant, we were delighted that as a finale we were able to present this lease award to one of our valued customers. As the New Year starts we are also pleased to provide, free of charge, a number of collateral pieces that will help visitors, convention attendees and residents alike explore and discover all that Dayton/Montgomery County has to offer. The new 42 page four color 2009 Destination Dayton Visitors Guide provides information on area attractions, accommodations, arts and culture, restaurants, parks and recreation, local communities and more. The CVB's dining guide produced with support from Heidelberg Distributing and the Miami Valley Restaurant Association provides information on area restaurants as well as helpful locator maps. The January-June 2009 printed Calendar of Events highlights many of the activities open to the public (with or without a fee) in the coming months. Each of these publications is available free of charge by contacting the CVB at 937-226-8211 or by logging onto www.daytoncvb.com. And with the New Year I am excited to welcome five new members to the Dayton/Montgomery County CVB's board-- Toni Kennedy, General Manager Dayton Marriott Hotel; Mark Meister, President & CEO Dayton Society of Natural History; Maureen Patterson, VP, Stakeholder Relations Dayton Development Coalition; Jenell Ross, Dealer Operator/VP Bob Ross Dealerships; and Dr. Peter Titlebaum, Assoc. Professor Department of Health & Sport Science, University of Dayton. The diversity of their professional experiences and talents will be an asset to the continued successes of the CVB.
