President’s Corner

It's hard to believe that Summer has passed and Fall is upon us. Our community had a wonderful summer with many event highlights ranging from the CityFolk Festival and City of Dayton Fireworks, the Vectren Dayton Air Show presented by Kroger, and the U.S. Air Force Marathon, to the Hot Rod Power Tour, National Police Softball Tournament, AAU Girls Fast-pitch Tournament, the American Legion of Ohio Convention, the adidas Warrior Soccer Tournament and the CUSA Mead Cup Soccer Tournament among others These events and others that were enjoyed by locals and visitors alike, helped infuse dollars into our local economy.

Fall continues to be busy. September and October are always our area's most popular months for hosting military reunion groups. The world-class National Museum of the US Air Force serves as a natural draw for military groups. The Dayton/Montgomery County Convention & Visitors Bureau is proud to work in conjunction with meeting planners, area hotels and the Museum to host nearly fifty reunions this fall. November 11th our nation celebrates Veteran's Day and Greater Daytonians are invited to attend free U.S. Air Force Band of Flight Concerts at 7:30pm November 6th and 7th at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force. While these concerts and the Veterans Day holiday celebrate our military we like to say that every day is veteran's day in Dayton/Montgomery County. We salute and honor our veterans, thank them for their service to our country, and invite them to host their military reunions in Dayton/Montgomery County.

The Fall season also brings numerous special events, festivals and activities. If you're an outdoor recreation enthusiast you won't want to miss Five Rivers MetroParks GearFest taking place October 3rd at Eastwood MetroPark. Ghost and goblins can enjoy Victoria Theatre's "Tales for the Shadows", spooky ballets based on Edgar Allan Poe and Robert Louis Stevenson's tales running between October 20-November 1, or the Enchanted Forest at Aullwood Farm October 23-24. The annual PhilharMONSTER Halloween Concert at the Schuster Center occurs October 24th and Hauntfest on Fifth will take place October 31st in the Oregon District. Later in the fall you'll want to be sure to attend the November 27th annual Grande Illumination & Dayton Children's Parade Spectacular in Lights, a Holiday Festival in downtown Dayton.

This Fall I encourage you to take advantage of, and enjoy, the plentiful diverse activities, events, attractions, shopping, lodging, and dining opportunities available in Dayton/Montgomery County. Log onto our website www.daytoncvb.com; or call our offices 800-221-8235 for assistance, ideas and suggestions. Have a great Fall!
