Many of Dayton's attractions have recently reopened or have a reopening plan in place. These attractions will be taking necessary precautions and will be enforcing protocols to ensure the safety of guests discovering all that Dayton has to offer!
The Dayton City Commission passed an emergency ordinance requiring residents and visitors to wear a face mask. The move is aimed at slowing the spread of COVID-19. The new ordinance goes into effect Friday, July 3, at 8 a.m. This ordinance affects attractions and businesses within the City of Dayton.
National Museum of the U.S. Air Force
Reopening date: July 1, 2020
Hours of Operation: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week
Protocols:
During the initial reopening phase, the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force asks visitors to comply with the following guidelines:
Masks: They require the use of face coverings for all staff, volunteers and visitors (3 years and older). Visitors may wear their own masks or a free paper mask will be provided. Cloth masks will also be available for purchase in the Museum Store.
Social Distancing: Please maintain a minimum distance of six feet from those outside your party while on the museum campus.
Sanitation: Hand sanitizers are available in the facility. Please use them and washing stations in our public restrooms. Cleaning will be enhanced throughout the museum.
Health: If you are not feeling well, have a fever, body aches or a cough, please visit another day. You can take their online virtual tour.
Boonshoft Museum of Discovery
Reopening date: June 16, 2020
Hours of operation: Tuesday - Saturday: 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m
Protocols:
- Visitors are not required to wear a mask, but are highly encouraged to wear one.
- Staff is required to wear masks.
- Vending machines, water fountains, the Food Chain and most interactive and high touch areas will be CLOSED.
- Water will be available for purchase.
- Disposable cups will also be made available.
- Other areas that will be closed include:
- The Hall of the Universe, Tree House, Main Exhibit Hall, Bieser and the Climbing Tower.
- Routine cleaning will happen on a timed schedule throughout the day.
- Planetarium shows will resume - a full schedule will be posted ASAP.
- The zoo will be open and the animals are ready to welcome everyone back!
- More collection items will be out and on display!
- Staff will be available throughout the building to answer questions, guide guests and disinfect any touchpoints.
SunWatch Indian Village
Reopening date: June 16, 2020
Hours of operation: Tuesday - Saturday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Sunday: Noon - 5:00 PM
Protocols:
- The indoor exhibit and theater will remain CLOSED - but the Village and Gift Shop will be open and ready for guests!
- Admission will be reduced to $5 and children under 6 are still FREE!
- Masks are not required, but encouraged while inside the Gift Shop.
- We will also encourage social distancing between groups while outside and inside the building.
- Water fountains will be closed.
- Water will be available for purchase.
- Disposable cups will also be available.
- Routine cleaning inside will happen on a timed schedule.
Carillon Historical Park
Reopening date: June 15, 2020
Hours of operation: 9:30am - 5:00pm Monday through Saturday, 12:00pm - 5:00pm on Sunday
Mound Cold War Discovery Center
Reopening date: June 17, 2020
Hours of operation: Wednesday through Saturday 10:00am- 4:00pm
Protocols: Masks recommended, but not required.
Dayton Art Institute
Reopening date: July 17, 2020
Hours of operation: 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, noon – 5 p.m. on Sundays.
Protocols:
- Physical distancing measures to ensure guests remain six feet from others not in their group
- All staff and guests will be required to wear face coverings while visiting the museum
- Enhanced cleaning procedures in place throughout the museum
- Protective shields installed at the museum’s Guest Services Desk
Aullwood Audubon
Reopening for Friends of Aullwood members only on July 1, 2020.
New hours are 9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Sunday.
Changes include:
- Limiting the number of people inside Farm Discovery Center
- Renovating bathrooms to be as touch-free as possible
- Daily deep cleaning of the facility and frequent cleaning of high-touch areas.
- Visitors are required to wear masks when inside the Farm Discovery Center with the exception of children 2 and under and those with medical issues.
- Single use masks will be available free to members.
- Practicing social distancing.
- One-way traffic patterns throughout the facilities.
- Hand sanitizer stations are available throughout the site.
