Dayton Metro Library Writer and Author Symposium is an event intended to inspire writers, motivate authors, and engage readers. We are excited to connect our patrons with the local writers and authors. During this half-day symposium, please join us for workshops, mini writing-themed activities, and an exploration of local authors. Books will be available for sale by local authors. During each workshop, the audience is invited to actively listen in as writers share what inspires their writing and what shapes their creativity.

Character Creation Community Room Second Floor 11:00 am-12:00 pm
Description
Creating characters is one of the hardest things for a writer to accomplish. Engaging characters pull readers in and keep them invested in the story. During this session, each panelist will share their thoughts, methodologist, and experience with creating characters. We will discuss how to select attributes, personalities, and physical characteristics that align with the story’s plot and the writer’s overall narrative. This discussion is a panel-style discussion and will include input from children's, adult, and nonfiction writers.

Description
Plots drive a story. Constructing details, understanding the story’s focus, and developing twists can be difficult. During this session writers and readers alike will learn how writers create story charts and narratives that drive you from introduction and engagement to climax and resolve.
Working Writers Suzy Bassani Theater Off Third, Third Floor 3:00 pm-4:00 pm
Description
Working on your writing career while working can be challenging. Finding time to write and focus requires time management skills and tools. During this session, we will discuss the working writer. Come learn what it takes to keep writing and keep working, and maintain the balance of life that is needed to keep creativity flowing.
