Overview

You are invited to celebrate African-American gospel music with the Dayton Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America (GMWA) in VTA’s new intimate theatre at the PNC Arts Annex. Since 1972, the Dayton Chapter of GMWA has brought music, workshops and educational opportunities to the Dayton region. This show will feature singers from all over the Miami Valley sharing their talents through powerful and uplifting music.

The Gospel Music Workshop of America, Incorporated is an international musical organization founded and chaired by the late Reverend James Cleveland in 1967. Its purpose is to promote African-American gospel music through academics, workshops, performances and new artist development. The Dayton Chapter was formed in March of 1972 under the leadership of the late Reverend Isaac Douglas and the late Charles Vaughn. At its inception, the chapter was aligned with the GMWA-Cincinnati Chapter under the direction of the late Dr. Charles Fold.

Today, the Dayton Chapter celebrates its 47th year of existence providing services to local churches seeking musicians; maintaining affiliation with the GMWA national organization; providing workshops and seminars for up-and-coming church choir conductors, soloists and instrumentalists; providing college credit courses and celebrating gospel music through concerts and other worship performance opportunities.
