The timeframe of this swinging ballet fits perfectly in Dayton Ballet's Ruby Jubilee season, one that is set to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Dayton Ballet and the 90th anniversary of the Dayton Ballet School, originally established by Miss Josephine Schwartz along with her sister, Miss Hermene, in 1927.
The Great Gatsby was F. Scott Fitzgerald’s third novel and stands as the supreme achievement of his career. The story of the fabulously wealthy Jay Gatsby, his love for the beautiful Daisy Buchanan, and lavish parties on Long Island is an exquisitely crafted tale of America in the 1920s.
The Great Gatsby will be set to live music performed by Billy Novick’s Blue Syncopators, a seven-piece jazz ensemble that will bring the era of jazz to life both in the orchestra pit and on stage with the dancers for this swinging production. Blues singer and Dayton local Felita LaRock joins on stage, helping set the mood with her sultry voice.
The full professional company of Dayton Ballet, along with dancers from Dayton Ballet II and the Dayton Ballet School, cordially invite you to the party of the century, so dust off your flapper dress or grab your top hat, Baby, and join us at the Victoria for a roaring good time.
